There’s a super-crafty mama friend of mine on Instagram who comes up with some pretty adorable home-preschool activities to do with her two young daughters (you can follow her here, if you’re interested). Back in September, she shared a no-cook applesauce playdough recipe she had cooked up with her girls that had kept them occupied all day long. It looked like a great sensory activity that I thought the girls would enjoy, so on a rainy day I pulled it out.
The looks of concentration should show you they were pretty into it. It also smelled delicious.
I brought out a bunch of their play dishes and my rolling pin so they could pretend to make things like apple pie and apple spice cookies.
Below is the recipe Jennifer shared. If you like it, I recommend heading over to her Instagram page to let her know and discover all the other awesome toddler activities she shares there.
NO-COOK APPLESAUCE PLAYDOUGH
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup salt
2 Tbs warm water
1/2 cup warm applesauce
1/4 cup cooking oil
cinnamon or apple pie spice
Mix the flour, salt, spices and oil in a bowl. Warm the water and applesauce in the microwave (just warm, not hot) and mix into the other ingredients. If the mixture is too sticky, add more flour. If it’s too crumbly, add a tiny bit more water. Done!
I love that the recipe is no-cook so it was easy to have the girls help make it. I modified it slightly by leaving out the cinnamon and letting them sprinkle that on the dough themselves and knead it in while they played. They really enjoyed that part. This is a great rainy-day fall activity for little ones.
