My amazing Zoey,
Five years. FIVE YEARS. I can’t seem to wrap my head around it. I blinked and your babyhood was gone. Another blink and the toddler years were over. Today you are five. Oh, five, you already promise to be so much fun!
I am seeing your imagination shine through more and more every day. You are learning patience (especially with your little sister) and you have so much kindness in you. Your sensitive heart cares so much for others, especially your baby brother and animals. Today is the first day of school, and your sister’s first ever day at preschool. You wrapped your arms around her in a hug, took her by the hand and made her feel at home in the classroom you are so familiar with. My heart swelled with pride watching the way you naturally took her under your wing, recognizing that she was feeling a bit nervous and shy.
One of my favorite things about you is how FUNNY you are. You can deliver a line, deadpan, with the most perfect timing. You keep your dad and I rolling with laughter, tears streaming down our faces. Half the time, I don’t think you even realize you’re being so funny, and that only enhances how hilarious it is.
You are in constant motion, and getting braver every day. It’s a bit easier now, most days, to get you to at least attempt something new. Riding your new scooter, swim lessons, school…”new” doesn’t automatically mean “scary” or “hard” to you anymore. You’ve blossomed into a social little butterfly, thanks to preschool, and I don’t worry so much anymore about you making friends when you get to Kindergarten. They’re going to love you. You’re amazing!
I am so incredibly proud of you, Zoey. I am so excited for all the fun and magic FIVE is going to bring for you and us. I love you.
