That’s So Pinteresting: 4th of July Lanterns

Getting this post done just in time!

These are easy, peasy and pretty self-explanatory. I found the inspiration here.

Supplies you will need:

Construction paper (red, white and blue)

tape and/or glue or glue sticks

scissors

I started by having the girls cut out strips of paper (scissor skills!) – two thick strips for the top and bottom of the lantern, one long but thinner strip for the handle, many thin strips for the sides. Then I had them tape down the side strips to the top and bottom strips (fine motor skills!). Zoey has been super into using tape lately, probably because it is something she can do independently and isn’t messy on her fingers, so she loved this part.

Next come the stars. You can have your kiddos draw and cut out their own stars (fine motor and planning skills!). We cheated and used a star-shaped hole punch that I have. The girls then glued these to the outside of the lanterns (with glitter glue because, why not?)

For the finished product, curve the lantern into it’s finished shape and tape (or staple) it together. This part takes a bit of dexterity, so if your kiddos are small like mine you might have to help them or do it for them. Finally, add the handle and you’re done!

I made the sides wavy on mine. Not sure if I like the finished effect of that or not.
